State Route 247 was closed in Adams County Tuesday morning (May 25) due to an accident, but has re-opened.

The WSJ said the company "will use Chinese technology to produce automotive-grade lithium-ion batteries for an all-electric car the U.S. company plans to launch in California later this year. The deal is a rare example of a U.S. auto maker having to tap a Chinese company for high technology. Another unusual facet of the venture is the creation of manufacturing jobs both in China and the U.S.

Thanks to grant funds from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention, youth and adult volunteers from Highland County participated in a county-wide Litter Pickup campaign during the months of March, April and May.  Grant funds provided the supplies and equipment needed for the litter pickups, and the volunteers provided the labor.

Air Force Airman Jeff S. Oberschlake graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

State Route 134 in Highland County has been closed due to collapsed culvert. The route is closed at the 8.39-mile marker, between S.R. 131 and S.R. 286. The closure is in effect until further notice, and motorists are being detoured via S.R. 131 and S.R. 138.

The Highland County Board of Commissioners will hold the second public hearing for the FY10 Community Development Block Grant on June 14, 2010, at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners’ meeting room, 119 Governor Foraker Place, Hillsboro. The public meeting for June 2 is canceled.
