Dozens of community supporters were on hand Wednesday morning to help dedicate the official opening of Because He Lives Food Pantry, Inc., in Lynchburg.
Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer, along with local council members, township trustees, school officials and clergy turned out for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Washington Street building.
The use of the building has been donated by Dodson Township Trustee Trever Elam, according to board member Carolyn Hastings, who served as the emcee for the event.
Hastings said several area church congregations have donated food and cash to the pantry, which is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday. The pantry has been serving the Lynchburg community since January.
"There's never been a greater need," Hastings said, "and we thank everyone in the community who has supported the pantry."
With board members assisting, Because He Lives Food Pantry Director Ruth Crabtree made the dedication official with a 9 a.m. ribbon-cutting.
Crabtree thanked the community and welcomed everyone to a reception after the ceremony.[[In-content Ad]]
