    The annual meeting of the Highland SWCD was held on Oct. 14 at the Hi-TEC Center in Hillsboro. During the meeting, several awards were presented, a successful silent auction was held and the election of supervisors took place.

    The Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District is actively seeking local residents to join its team of paid on call (volunteer) firefighters/EMTs and is actively seeking applications for the position of part-time firefighter.
  • High wind warning, tornado watch issued for Tuesday, Oct. 26
    The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a high wind warning which is in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26 until 8 p.m. this evening. Strong winds will develop ahead of an approaching cold front, the NWS said. Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts reaching 60 mph are expected. A tornado watch is also in effect for Highland and surrounding counties.
  • County-wide Halloween events this week
    Halloween festivities will be held across Highland County this week.
    A Halloween parade, sponsored by the Paint Creek Joint Fire and EMS will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26. The lineup will be at the McClain High School colonnades on 5th Street at 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be given for best float and best costumes for all ages. arade will start at 6 p.m. 

  • Prosecutor: Coonrod to be retried
    The Highland County Prosecutor Jim Grandey's Office filed documents Monday indicating that they intend to retry Wesley Coonrod on two charges of murder and one count of aggravated arson. They will not seek the death penalty.

  • Report: Charges filed against Strickland campaign for false statements about Kasich's gun record
    harges have been filed with the Ohio Election Commission accusing Ted Strickland’s campaign of deliberately and knowingly lying about John Kasich’s record in support of gun owners’ rights and the Second Amendment. The charges were filed by Rep. Danny Bubp (R-West Union), a life member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) with an A+ rating who was endorsed by the NRA in this year’s election, said a news release from Kasich campaign press secretary Rob Nichols.

The GOTV mailing is the largest mailing to union members of the election, with 10 million pieces going out to union members in states across the country.

    According to the Highland County Sheriff's Office, the call reporting the fire came in at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sunday. 

    The Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, Paint Creek Joint Fire and EMS, Leesburg North Joint Fire and EMS, Mowrystown Fire Department, Marshall Fire Department, Brush Creek Fire Department and Winchester Fire Department have all responded to the scene with manpower, brush units and tanker trucks. Lynchburg fire department is doing station coverage, but is also responding to an emergency run in their area.
