Ohio Rep. John Adams, R-Sidney, is accused of coordinating a number of perks for state lawmakers from lobbyists related to the American Legislative Exchange Council.

Ohio Department of Agriculture Director David T. Daniels is urging Ohio farmers to take advantage of resources that will help connect farmers who may have grown more hay than they need to farmers who don’t have enough to feed their herds.

Brandy Pearce presented a check for $750 to Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward Tuesday, Aug. 14 at the Highland County Justice Center. Pearce made the presentation on behalf of the Hillsboro Elks Community Service Grant and Tom Pavlik, state chairman for Community Service of the Ohio Elks Association 501(c)(3) Charitable Trust Fund.

The city of Hillsboro has issued a boil advisory for businesses and residents along North High Street from Northview Drive to the water plant and along Sherwood Drive for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Hillsboro City Council Finance Committee agreed on an additional $35,000 in proposed cuts to the 2012 budget, and a 2-1 vote was passed to recommend the city continue its contract with the law firm of Blaugrund, Herbert, Kessler, Miller, Myers and Postalakis. Pence and Alexander voted to approve the motion, while Shoemaker voted no.

The Grammy Award-winning Kentucky Headhunters will be appearing live, in concert at The Fling Barn, south of Hillsboro, Friday, Aug. 24.

Wildlife biologists report 145 osprey chicks were produced from 110 nests throughout the state this year. With the number of breeding pairs steadily increasing over the past 15 years, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife has removed the osprey from the state’s threatened species list.

On Saturday, Aug. 11, the Highland County Firefighters Association sponsored a training session with the Miami Valley Hospital's Mobile Education Lab (MEL) at the Hillsboro Fire Station. All area departments were invited to attend the session on Difficult Airway Management.

School districts in Highland County begin class on the second full week in August. Once again, Highland County's roadways will be populated with school buses, students walking to and from school and busier traffic conditions in the morning and afternoon.

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators and representatives wrote to the chairmen of the House and Senate’s committees with broad oversight of the federal government’s activities, seeking requests for additional documents in the ongoing investigation into the decision to slash the pensions of 20,000 Delphi Salaried Retirees during the bailout of General Motors.
