OSHP encourages motorist awareness for start of 2012-13 school eyar

School districts in Highland County begin class on the second full week in August. Once again, Highland County's roadways will be populated with school buses, students walking to and from school and busier traffic conditions in the morning and afternoon.
Lt. Aaron L. Gentry, Commander of the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, stated, "We are encouraging drivers to be mindful of these changes in the traffic patterns and the traffic volume."
Motorists are encouraged to watch for children at cross walks and school buses stopping at posted school bus stops and on the rural routes in the county.

"School bus drivers are vigilant in watching for motorists passing their buses when they are stopped taking on and discharging children," Lt. Gentry stated.
Troopers are also watching as well.
"We increase patrols in the school zones at starting and ending times and follow school buses on their routes in an effort to strictly enforce the laws pertaining to school zones and passing stopped school buses.
"We need the public's help as well. If drivers take their time going to and from places, be mindful of their speed and wear their safety belt, we will have a safe school year. Please do your part in contributing to a safer Ohio."
