Patrol OVI checkpoint in Fayette County Aug. 7

WILMINGTON – The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held tomorrow evening in Fayette County.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

“Based on provisional data, there were 10,121 OVI-related crashes in which 540 people were killed last year in Ohio,” Lieutenant Brittany Noah, Commander of the Wilmington Post, said. “State troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”

The location of the checkpoint will be announced tomorrow morning, August 7.

If you see an impaired or reckless driver on the road, call #677 to be connected directly to the nearest Ohio State Highway Patrol post. Your call could save a life.

Additional OVI-related enforcement and educational information can be found on the Patrol’s OVI Dashboard | Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Patrol is seeking driven, service-minded individuals who are ready to make a difference and removed impaired drivers from Ohio roadways. Those interested can text “joinOSHP” to (614) 654-OSHP.

The Patrol also offers a  ride-along program and those interested are encouraged to contact their local OSHP post  to schedule a ride-along with a trooper during their shift.
