Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss ruled Thursday, Feb. 1 that Stacie Rhonemus, not Ashley Watson, was elected to the Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education, following a lawsuit filed by Rhonemus against the Highland County Board of Elections.

In an hourlong afternoon session Wednesday, Jan. 31, Highland County commissioners David Daniels, Brad Roades and Terry Britton met with representatives from McCarty Associates to discuss updates, and some issues, with the county’s records storage building project.

A Lynchburg man serving a nine-year prison term for felonious assault was sentenced Tuesday to an additional 18 months after pleading guilty to retaliation.

A Greenfield man already serving community control in a separate case was sentenced to five years of community control and ordered to pay over $3,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to theft by deception.

A Hillsboro man was sentenced to six years in prison Monday afternoon, after pleading guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge in a case involving the death of an area teenager.

The Building Bridges 4-H Club held their first meeting Jan. 25 at the community room of the Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District with six members present. 

Generosity throughout Highland County contributed to a successful shoebox gift collection season at drop-off locations for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child. Across the U.S., the project collected 10 million shoebox gifts in 2023. Combined with those collected from partnering countries in 2023, the ministry is now sending over 11.3 million shoebox gifts to children worldwide, including many who are suffering from war, poverty, disease and disaster.
