WC Athletics names 6 new members of Hall of Fame to be inducted this fall
The Wilmington College athletics department announced six new members to be inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame this fall. They are Carl Amerine ('07), David Hawk ('16), Malcolm Heard II ('14), Marque Jones Sr. ('77), Danielle Monnier ('14) and Roger Reveal ('64).
"We are excited to welcome Carl, David, Malcolm, Marque, Danielle, and Roger as our newest members into the Wilmington College Athletics Hall of Fame", said Quakers Director of Athletics Matt Croci. "Their contributions to Wilmington and their respective programs are significant and impactful. I also want to thank our Hall of Fame committee for their time and efforts in this process."
The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m in the newly renovated Scheve Recreation Gym.
Carl Amerine – Wrestling – Class of 2007
Carl Amerine wrestled four years for the Quakers under head coach Jim Marsh.
Carl was a two-time All-American for the Quakers, finishing sixth nationally in 2006 at 149 pounds and eighth nationally in 2005 at 157 pounds.
He was also named All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) three times during his career. He was the OAC Champion in 2005 at 157 pounds. At 149 pounds, he was the runner up in 2004 and 2006.
Carl was a three-year captain at Wilmington and won four tournaments total in his career.
"Wilmington College played a huge role in shaping who I am," Amerine stated. "The friendships, coaches, teammates, and experiences I had there mean more to me than any individual accomplishment. Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is an incredible honor, and I'm truly grateful."
David Hawk – Men's Swimming – Class of 2016
David Hawk was a five-time OAC champion for the Quakers men's swimming team, which is tied for the most individual conference championships in program history. Overall, he finished as an individual All-Conference performer six times.
He was a two-time champion in the 50 Yard Freestyle (2015 and 2016) and a two-time champion in the 100 Yard Freestyle (2015 and 2016), along with winning the 200 Yard Freestyle in 2015.
He was also a member of the Quakers second place 200 Yard Medley Relay team in 2014 and finished third in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 2016. Hawk held several program records at the time of his graduation and still holds the record in the 50 Yard Freestyle at 20.58 seconds.
"I hold my time at Wilmington College very dearly," said Hawk. "WC Swim gave me the greatest memories I could have asked for, the best of friends, and the most amazing woman. I couldn't be more thrilled that WC also found me to be memorable and worth recognizing because I'll never forget my time there."
Malcolm Heard II – Men's Basketball – Class of 2014
Malcolm Heard II is the third leading scorer in Wilmington men's basketball program history with 1,577 points. He is the only player in program history to be named an All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), earning Second Team honors in 2013-14. He was also named a Fourth Team All-American by D3hoops.com in 2013-14. He is one of only six All-Americans in Quakers program history.
Other accolades from his senior season (2013-14) were being named the D3hoops.com Great Lakes Region Player of the Year and First Team All-Great Lakes Region. He was also the OAC Player of the Year and First Team All-OAC.
Heard was named First Team All-OAC three times in his career and is in the Top-10 of six different single season program record categories.
"Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard," said Heard.
Marque Jones Sr. – Contributor/Dignitary – Class of 1977
Marque Jones Sr. was involved with the Wilmington College football program for over 50 years. He played for four years and graduated in 1977 and was a solid player for the Quakers. He finished his career with 39 catches for 620 yards.
He then joined former head coach Bill Ramseyer on staff and never left. Jones started by helping out with whatever was needed, before eventually focusing on the wide receivers, his position at Wilmington. He held the full-time receivers job for several decades and left a legacy on the program that may never be matched.
"When I was told I would be inducted into the athletics Hall of Fame, I was surprised and grateful to be recognized for the many years spent coaching the wideouts group," said Jones Sr. "Thank you to the selection committee for choosing me for such a great honor."
Danielle Monnier – Softball – Class of 2014
Danielle Monnier is one of the Quakers best pitchers in program history. She holds the program record for wins in a career with 37 and strikeouts with 444. She is the only player in program history to have two seasons where she won 10 or more games and has the top three seasons in program history in strikeouts.
She was named Third Team All-Central Region in 2014 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Monnier is one of just seven Quakers to be named All-Region by the NFCA.
She was named First Team All-OAC in 2013 and 2014, along with being the conference Pitcher of the Year in 2014, the only Quaker ever to earn this honor.
"Being inducted into the athletics Hall of Fame is a true honor," said Monnier. "It's a reminder of the unforgettable memories, lasting friendships, and incredible people who helped me along the way. I'm deeply grateful for this recognition."
Roger Reveal – Men's Basketball – Class of 1964
Roger Reveal scored 1,047 points during his career at Wilmington College and is one of just 29 players in program history to cross the 1,000-point threshold.
He was the second leading scorer during his last two seasons on campus at 18.9 points per game in 1963-64 and 17.3 points per game in 1962-63. Reveal also averaged 15.8 points per game as a sophomore in 1961-62.
In his senior campaign, he was named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American and was on the All Mid-Ohio Conference team.
Reveal became the first player in Clinton County to score 1,000 points in both high school and college.
After his time at Wilmington, he coached basketball for several years, including as an assistant at Wilmington under former head coach John Ferguson.
"I would like to thank the college and the athletic department for this honor," said Reveal.
