The Hillsboro Christian Academy Crusaders begin their week with two victories over tough opponents in the Georgetown High School Volleyball Club and the Wilmington Christian Academy volleyball team.
The Crusaders defeated the G-Men in five sets on Monday, April 24 and defeated the WCA Lions on April 25. The Crusaders won the second, third and fifth sets against the G-Men by scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 15-12 while the G-Men won the first and fourth sets 26-24 and 25-22. The Crusaders won the first, third and fourth sets against the Lions by scores of 25-07, 25-19 and 25-13 while the Lions won the second set 25-23.
The hosting Crusaders on April 25 against WCA were led in kills by Kellin Storer with 10. Isaac Dawkins led the Crusaders in assists with 16. Brayden Rizer led the team in aces with five. Freshman Titus Howsman led the Crusaders in playable passes with 45.
The Crusaders took the first set against the Lions thanks in large part to a run by Rizer that lasted 15 points. The Crusaders needed only three servers for the first set, senior CJ Storer, Rizer and Dawkins. Dawkins closed out the first set with a run of six points.
The second set was a back-and-forth match between both teams as it came down to the final serves of the set. The Lions took the second set, forcing a minimum of four sets to be played.
The Crusaders bounced back in the third set and took a 2-1 set advantage. Kellin Storer and Rizer led the Crusaders in points for the second set with six each. The third set ended in favor of the Crusaders, 25-19.
The final set of the night went to the Crusaders, 25-13. The Crusaders pulled ahead and Coach Tyler Tomera put in his bench players to close out the game. Freshman Jonah Brannon came into the game and earned two kills as did sophomore Nathan Massie.
The Crusaders improved to 8-2 on the season and will take on the Chess Christian School on April 27 at CCS.
