Governor DeWine signs executive order related to college athlete NIL litigation

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Monday signed Executive Order-08D, regarding fairness in Name, Image, and Likeness compensation for Ohio student-athletes.

The order “hereby orders and directs that any postsecondary educational institution in the State of Ohio” covered by a proposed settlement agreement involving the NCAA and various athletic conferences “may offer compensation or compensate an intercollegiate student-athlete for the use of such student-athlete’s NIL; provided, however, that no postsecondary educational institution shall use funds allocated by the State of Ohio for such compensation.”
