Mustangs wins for 7th time this season

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs hosted the Vinton County Vikings on Wednesday (April 16), and they wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as a 10-run first inning led to LCHS winning by a 19-1 score in a five-inning non-conference contest.
As LCHS scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning, they led by a 10-1 score when that inning came to a close. From there, the Mustangs scored four runs in the second and five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Mustangs totaled 10 hits in the win and walked 17 times as well. VCHS totaled two hits, and neither team committed an error.
Braedon West led LCHS in the hits category, as he was 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI and a walk.
Elam Faust ended the day at 2-for-2 with three RBI and one walk.
LCHS also had Josiah Burns finish 1-for-2 with two runs, a hit by pitch, and a walk. Cole Wells was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two walks. The Mustangs also had Christian Flowers go 1-for-1 with a double, three RBI and two walks. Caden Boone was 1-for-2 with a double and a run.
Quin Wells ended his day at 1-for-2 with a run, one RBI and a walk. Lynchburg-Clay also had Caden Faust score one run, Tanner Roberts collected a run, an RBI and two walks. Asher Faust finished with one run and a walk. Cody Bell scored two runs, was hit by a pitch and walked twice.
Kristian Beachy had one run, one RBI and a walk. Also for LCHS, Trevor Niehaus scored a run, collected and RBI and had a walk.
Jay Cordrey ended his day with two runs, one RBI and a walk. Ryan Creditt collected an RBI and a walk.
Finishing with steals were Elam Faust, Flowers, Cordrey, Bell (two), Roberts and Quin Wells.
Cole Wells was the winning pitcher for LCHS, pitching three innings, allowing one run (unearned) on one hit and two walks with seven strikeouts. Quin Wells pitched two innings, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk.
The win improves the Mustangs to 7-2 overall this season.
