Mustangs boys soccer records 4th straight shutout; earns wins over Hillsboro, West Union and South Webster

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs boys soccer team has shut out their past four opponents, including three this past week, as they’ve defeated the Hillsboro Indians, West Union Dragons and the South Webster Jeeps. 

Starting with their match on Monday (Sept. 28), the Mustangs defeated the Hillsboro Indians 6-0 at Hillsboro High School. 

LCHS led 2-0 at halftime, then added four more goals in the second half for the shutout win. 

The Mustangs had two goals from junior Quin Wells, while scoring one goal each were senior Levi Fields, senior Mason Fisher, senior Alexander VanFleet and freshman Korbin Williams. 

Assists were made by Fisher, freshman Colton Short, VanFleet and junior Brayden Warne. 

The Mustangs also had four saves from junior keeper Tanner Roberts. For Hillsboro, sophomore keeper Owen Davis had nine saves. 

The loss moved Hillsboro’s overall record to 2-8-1.

Next for the Mustangs was a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over the visiting West Union Dragons by a 4-0 score on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at LCHS. 

Goals scored for Lynchburg-Clay were made by Fields, Aric Slack, VanFleet and Williams. The assists were completed by Fisher, Slack and Wells. 

Roberts at goal for LCHS had one save. 

On Saturday, the Mustangs won by a 1-0 score at SWHS in a non-conference match. 

Before these three matches, the shutout streak began on Friday, Sept. 25 in a win over Peebles at LCHS. The Mustangs now have an overall record of 9-3-1 with a SHAC record of 3-1-1. 

Thus far this season, the Mustangs have seven shutouts. 

Next for the Mustangs is a home SHAC match against the Fairfield Lions Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 6:45 p.m.
