Indians drop non-conference game at Piketon

The Hillsboro Indians lost a non-conference road game Wednesday night as they fell to the host Piketon Redstreaks by a 65-58 score.
Hillsboro led 15-13 after the first frame as Tate Davis, Brayden Hunter, Steven Kibler, Nic Burns and Jack Howland all reached the scoring column in the opening quarter.
The second quarter wasn’t as good for HHS, being outscored 16-8 for a halftime deficit for the Indians of 29-23.
The second saw HHS score 35 points, including 15 points in the third and 20 points in the fourth quarter. On the other hand, Piketon scored 34 points in the second half with 12 points in the third and 22 points in the final frame.
Hillsboro’s leading scorer was Howland with 17 points as the freshman made four two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and he was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Kibler followed with 15 points, as he collected seven two-point baskets and was 1-of-3 in his free-throw attempts.
Also for HHS, Hunter scored 13 points with three 3-pointers and two two-point buckets.
Other final scoring for the Indians included Davis (7), Burns (4) and Mason Dumpert (2).
HHS totaled seven 3-pointers as a team. Other final team totals included 14 two-point baskets, and the Indians were 9-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Piketon was led by Paul McGuire with 22 points and Declan Davis with 16 points.
The Redstreaks were 11-of-14 from the free-throw line.
HHS totaled seven turnovers, and Piketon had nine turnovers.
The loss moves HHS to an overall record of 6-6, and they are 3-3 in the FAC standings.
Hillsboro’s game Friday, Jan. 19 at Miami Trace was postponed. Next on the schedule is a home non-conference game on Saturday, Jan. 20 against Paint Valley.
