Tigers baseball drops consecutive games to Jackson Ironmen
On Tuesday and Wednesday evening, the McClain Tigers faced the Jackson Ironmen in Frontier Athletic Conference action, once at Mitchell Park in Greenfield and the other in Jackson, where the Tigers lost each game.
In the two consecutive days, the Tigers (3-6) lost by the same score at 12-2 in each game.
During Tuesday’s game (April 9) in Greenfield, the Tigers were out-hit at 5-4, and Jackson committed three errors to McClain’s one error, but Jackson were still the winners in five innings for their run-rule victory.
McClain’s two runs were scored in the bottom of the third, the problem was Jackson scored two runs in the top of the second, followed by a five-run third inning for a 7-2 lead over the home team.
JHS added two more runs in the top of the fourth, and then three runs in the top of the fifth, for their 12 total runs.
The four hits by McClain came off the bats of four different players, with Seth Weller finishing 1-for-3 with a run, Andrew Potts was 1-for-3, Jayden Allison finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and Connor McCune was 1-for-3.
The Tigers also had Kaden Penwell draw a walk, Owen Sykes drew a walk and Benny Vangundy also forced a walk. McCune and Vangundy each had a steal.
Potts was charged with the loss on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs on one hit and and five walks with two strikeouts.
Easton Ary pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks, while also collecting a strikeout. Eli Douglas went 0.2 innings on the mound with no runs, walks or hits allowed.

On Wednesday (April 10), the Tigers lost at Jackson by a 12-2 score in five innings.
JHS started the game off with three runs in the top of the first, followed by a seven-run third inning, and one run in both the fourth and fifth innings for their 12-run total.
McClain’s two runs crossed home plate in the top of the fourth inning.
For the game, the Ironmen of Jackson totaled five hits and committed one error, while MHS had three hits and five errors.
Potts had two of McClain’s three hits, as he was 2-for-2 with one run and a walk. McClain’s other hit was off the bat of Penwell, who finished 1-for-3, as his hit was a double. Sykes and Ary each drew a walk for the Tigers, and Vangundy collected an RBI.
Potts and Cohen Six scored the two McClain runs. Potts had the lone McClain steal.
Penwell was charged with the pitching loss, as he went two innings on the mound where he allowed four earned runs on two hits and five walks. Six pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
