McClain senior Ethan Hill wrestled two days at the 2024 OHSAA State Wrestling Championships this past weekend (March 8-9) at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.

Hill won his first match of the state tournament (285-pound weight class) on Friday as he defeated sophomore Jeffery Blair of Chaminade Julienne, 2-1 in a non-timed tiebreaker in Round 1 of the Division II match.

From there, on Saturday (March 9), Hill wrestled in the quarterfinals, where he was pinned by senior Alex Griffin of Galion at 3:37.

In the second consolation round, Hill lost by pin fall to Hubbard senior Nick Bowser at 2:18 to see his season come to a close.

Hill finishes the season at 26-5 overall, a season that included time missed due to a shoulder injury and later a knee injury. Hill ends the 2023-24 season by gaining his 100th career win, a Frontier Athletic Conference championship, a sectional championship, and he was a district runner-up.

The MHS senior Hill is a two-time state qualifier, wrestling the 2023 season — his junior year — at the 215-pound weight class. In all four years of Hill’s wrestling career for the Tigers, he wrestled in a different weight class.

For his career, Hill won two FAC championships (215, 285), one sectional championship (285), a sectional runner-up (215), second place (285) and fourth place (215) at districts, and he’s wrestled five total matches at the state level the past two seasons.
