McClain Lady Tigers fall to Huntington, Adena to start 2024 season

The McClain Lady Tigers began their 2024 season with non-conference losses to the Huntington Lady Huntsmen and the Adena Lady Warriors on Monday and Tuesday evening.
On Monday (March 25), the Lady Tigers and Huntington each had 11 hits in the season opener for MHS, but the difference was only two runs as HHS defeated McClain, 11-9.
One big standout moment for the Lady Tigers was a home run smashed by Olivia Stegbauer, as she finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
McClain opened the top of the first with a 3-0 lead, but in the bottom of the second, it was a four-run inning for Huntington that put them ahead 4-3.
The Lady Tigers answered with five runs in the top of the third inning, but at the bottom of the same inning, HHS scored two runs, with McClain still leading by a 8-6 score.
Each team scored one run in the fourth inning, but HHS took the lead with three runs in the fifth inning, for a Huntington advantage of 10-9. The Lady Huntsmen added one final run in the bottom of the sixth.
McClain committed seven errors, while Huntington committed two errors.
Lindsey Hutchinson finished 3-for-4 for MHS with three runs. Brie Cummins was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Also for the Lady Tigers, Leah Lovett, Millia Everetts (one run) and Gracie Bowers (two RBI) each had one hit. Allie Flowers scored one run and walked once, while Amaya Ryan walked once for McClain.
Extra-base hits for MHS included Cummins, Everetts and Hutchinson (two) all having doubles. Lovett hit a triple, and Stegbauer had the aforementioned home run. Cummins also had a steal.
Cummins pitched two innings, where she allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and had one strikeout. Bowers pitched four innings, allowing eight runs (one earned), and she had one strikeout.

On Tuesday (March 26) the Lady Tigers lost to Adena on the road by a 16-6 score.
MHS scored two runs in the top of the fourth and had a four-run top of the fifth inning. Adena scored one run in the bottom of the first, followed by a run in the third, eight runs in the fourth and they had a six-run fifth inning as Adena won the game in five innings.
For MHS, they totaled five hits and committed two errors. Adena finished the game with 11 runs and no errors.
Cummings finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Having one hit each were Stegbauer (one run, one RBI, one walk), Lovett (one run, two RBI) and Kenzi Wise. Also for MHS, Sarah Easter had one walk. Cummins and Stegbauer each hit a double, while Cummins and Lovett each blasted a home run.
Cummins pitched 0.1 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on one hit, and she collected a strikeout.
Wise pitched 0.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. Bowers pitched four innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on seven hits.
