Lady Tigers score 17 runs in non-conference victory over Paint Valley
Seventeen was the lucky number for the McClain Lady Tigers on Thursday night (April 18), with MHS going on the road and defeating the host Paint Valley Lady Bearcats, 17-5 in non-conference action at PVHS.
The win in Ross County saw McClain get off to an excellent and strong start, having a seven-run top of the first inning, followed by a four-run top of the third, while PVHS responded with a run in the bottom of the third for an 11-1 MHS lead after three innings.
Both teams scored two runs apiece in the fourth inning, followed by MHS having a four-run top of the fifth inning for their 17 total runs. PVHS scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Tigers totaled 20 hits and committed five errors. Paint Valley finished with 10 hits and had three errors.
Brie Cummins hit a home run for the Lady TIgers, finishing the game 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
McClain also had Olivia Stegbauer finish with three hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Also with three hits in the win was Gracie Bowers, as she was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Bowers also hit a double in McClain’s 12-run win.
Lindsey Hutchinson went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Leah Lovett finished at 2-for-4 with two runs, a double and one RBI. The Lady Tigers also had Allie Flowers go 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Also with hits for McClain were Kenzi Wise (1-for-3, two runs, two RBI, one walk), Milla Everetts (1-for-2, one run), Harley Peabody (1-for-2, one run), Amaya Ryan (1-for-2, one RBI) and Sarah Easter (1-for-2, one double, one run).
Bowers was the winning pitcher, pitching all seven innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on 10 hits and no walks. Bowers finished with four strikeouts, throwing 93 pitches, 62 for strikes.
