After dropping a disappointing 16-4 decision at Miami Trace on Monday night with Panther starting pitcher Kaylee Everhart earning the victory on the mound and McClain senior Gracie Bowers suffering the loss, on Tuesday on Daryle Unger Memorial Field in Greenfield the tables were turned. The Lady Tigers came from behind and got a much-needed 9-4 win over their Fayette County rivals.

This time, it was McClain’s Bowers going seven innings for the victory, and Everhart took the loss in the circle for Miami Trace.

The Lady Tigers trailed 4-3 in the top of the sixth inning, but in the bottom half of the sixth the McClain bats came alive and scored six runs on just three hits, but everyone was hitting the ball hard who came to the plate. The big blow in the inning was a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Olivia Stegbauer.

“Our girls brought a totally different game tonight,” said McClain first-year head coach Molly Stegbauer. “Their positivity was never in doubt even after they were down a run late in the game.

“After giving up the go ahead run in the top of the sixth, we bounced back and answered scoring the six runs that would be the difference in the ballgame.

“Gracie (Bowers) was much more relaxed and confident on the mound tonight and never walked a single batter,” continued Stegbauer. “She undoubtedly commanded the circle, and our defense was almost flawless, having her back in the field behind her.

“Offensively, we hit the ball better and put the ball in play more tonight.”

Senior Allie Flowers led the Lady Tigers in batting, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored followed by Stegbauer, who only had one hit but it was that big two-run single in the pivotal sixth inning.

Lindsey Hutchinson, Leah Lovett, Harley Peabody and Gracie Bowers also each collected a hit for McClain in the contest.

Pitching line on Bowers was 7 innings, 15 hits, 4 runs (earned), 0 walks and 7 strikeouts.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play at Paint Valley on Thursday, April 19, then travel to Chillicothe on Monday, April 22 before returning home on Tuesday, April 23, when they will host the Lady Cavaliers on Daryle Unger Memorial Field.
