The Lynchburg Lions Club sponsors its annual Peace Poster Contest in the fall. The club encourages middle school students to develop a special poster on a theme related to promoting world peace. Three winners are selected, and they are given awards and cash prizes.

Sara Albert recently received the District Award of Merit for her work with Cubs Scouts, Cub Day Camp, Boy Scouts and Venturing for 2014. Patsy Fauber also received the District Commissioner of the Year award for 2014.

There was a log cabin in 1830 on the lot where the Highland House sits today in before the original brick house was built in 1844. Although the original log cabin no longer exists, the one presently on site originates from the same era.
