Winners named in SSCC art exhibition; Wenker wins award for pastel painting
 
 
Winners have been announced in the 10th annual Spring Invitational Area Artist Exhibition and Competition sponsored by Southern State Community College and the Appalachian Gateway Center exhibits committee. The exhibit was on display May 6-28 at the college’s South Campus in Fincastle. An artists’ reception was held May 13.
                Exhibits coordinator James D. Werline said that this year’s event showcased 44 artists, including 33 former Southern State art students, six art educators and five currently pursuing art degrees. Twenty-one entrants are represented in the college’s permanent art collection. This year’s exhibit jurors were Kim Baker, a graduate of Southern State Community College and Morehead State University and currently a teacher of studio art and art education at Mason County Middle School, and Heather Hazelbaker, a graduate of Southern State Community College and currently a senior majoring in studio art and art education at Morehead State University.

Purchase Award – “Finished” charcoal drawing by David Scott, Southern State Community College
Purchase Award – “Wood Fired Bowl #4” stoneware ceramics by Josh Reed, Morehead State University, Southern State Community College
