Youth and ladies shoot June 19
The Highalnd County Coon Hunters with assistance from 4/H Shooting
Sports and the Highland County Rod and Gun Club are sponsoring their annual
Youth Shoot on June 19th. However, this year, in an effort to encourage more
people to join in the outdoor sports, they are expanding the shoot to
include ladies.
Shooting will consist of trap shooting, archery shooting and .22 rifle
shooting.
All shooting will be well supervised and instructed if needed. Shooters can
bring their own guns or bows but loaners will be available.
The activities will start with a meal at noon followed by the shooting.
The meal and all activities are free of charge.

CDBG hearing June 14
The Highland County Board of Commissioners will hold the second public
hearing for the FY10 Community Development Block Grant on June 14, at 9 a.m.
in the commissioners’ meeting room, 119 Governor Foraker Place, Hillsboro.

Sinking Spring
alumni dinner June 12
The annual Sinking Spring School Alumni dinner will be held on Saturday,
June 12 at the Sinking Spring Community Center. Social hour is 4-6 p.m.
Dinner will be a catered buffet served at 6:30 p.m. The cost of the meal
will be $12 per person, and reservations may be sent to Sinking Spring
Alumni Assn., P.O. Box 143, Sinking Spring, Ohio 45172.
Extension Office
reduces hours
Due to budget and staff reductions, effective June 7, the Ohio State
University Extension Highland County normal office hours will be Monday
through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. -4 p.m. The office will be closed on Friday.
Clients are encouraged to call ahead in the event that scheduling conflicts
vary the normal hours. Messages may be left in voice mail at 393-1918.
Educators and staff will continue to service clients’ needs as efficiently
as resources allow.
USA Gymnastics club
opens near Mowrystown
Crusaders Gymnastics (Champions of Faith Gymnastics, LLC) is a new
gymnastics training facility, featuring a previous national elite gymnast
and 1988 Olympic hopeful, Tessa Shafor, as the owner and head coach.
With 27 years of professional coaching experience, her expertise can
provide potential Olympic opportunity to any child in the surrounding
five–county area. The facility is located by the Old “Y” Restaurant (south
of Hillsboro) at the junction of U.S. 62 and S.R. 321. The facility provides
training based on the Junior Olympic Development Course, for both girls and
boys from ages 2-19 on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
The facility is a Professional Member Club of USA Gymnastics and focuses
on providing opportunities to local youth for college scholarships and
potential Olympic competition. Services include recreational and competitive
gymnastics; pre-school/home-school programs; and cheerleading support, all
from beginner to advanced.

WHS golf scramble June 19
The Whiteoak High School’s Athletic Boosters will hold the annual golf
scramble on Saturday, June 19. A shotgun start is set for 9 a.m. and the
cost is $200 per team, with lunch included. To sponsor the scramble,

The First United Methodist Church’s Our Daily Bread program will be
serving a free lunch every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Everyone welcome, no reservations needed.
* St. Mary Catholic School is accepting Pre-school through Grade 4
students for the 2010-11 school year. All faiths are welcome and
scholarships are available. Contact the school at 840-9932 for applications

* The Hillsboro Christian Academy will host a luncheon on Sunday, June
13 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church, 8080
S.R. 124, Hillsboro A $5 donation is suggested. All proceeds will go to
Hillsboro Christian Academy toward scholarships for students.
* Mowrystown Community Vacation Bible School will host a “High Seas
Expedition” June 14-18 from 9-11:35 a.m. for those in preschool through the
sixth grade. Opening begins each day at the Mowrystown Presbyterian Church.
