  • Advancing clean nuclear energy

We must preserve and expand our use of nuclear energy. This will advance our country’s energy and national security interests. Nuclear energy is reliable and clean.
  • Reflecting on Independence Day
Last Thursday, on July 4th, we celebrated our nation’s independence and freedom. It was the 248th anniversary of when the Declaration of Independence was signed, and the United States of America officially became an independent nation, and no longer a colony of England.
  • War with Hezbollah is inevitable
Israel has glimpsed the possibility of another Holocaust. Though Hamas is incapable of fulfilling its genocidal aspirations, Iran may well be, and Hezbollah is a crucial part of Tehran’s plans. In the long run, Israel simply cannot tolerate such a malignant and formidable enemy on its doorstep.
  • Joe Biden’s cognitive issues are destined for the memory hole
We’ve heard this all before – and Trump is still leading the race. The attacks on him have been so vicious and unhinged for so long that it is easy to overlook the truly astounding fact that the man is still standing. Part of this is due to his remarkable toughness; part is due to the out-of-touch incompetence of his foes. They still don’t see that they have overplayed their hand, offering risible caricatures instead of critiques.
  • White House: No ‘specialist’ has examined Biden at residence in Delaware
The White House would not say this week why a neurologist with expertise in Parkinson’s disease, Dr. Kevin Cannard, visited the executive campus eight different times or who specifically the doctor was there to visit.
  • Poll: Independent voters move away from Biden
Former President Donald Trump holds a lead over President Joe Biden just a few months away from election day. Emerson College Polling released the new poll, which reports Trump leads Biden 46% to 43% with 11% undecided.
  • A sermon on Mark 6:7-13
I pray that when God looks at me in my judgment, He will see His face reflected in mine.
  • Highland County Historical Society to enshrine four more in Hall of Fame
Next month, the Highland County Historical Society will induct four more members into its hallowed Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees include Dr. Larry Dukes, Steve Faris, Vicki Knauff and the late Ernie Blankenship.
  • Universities should promote rigorous discourse, not stifle it
That officials at both Stanford and Harvard have publicly advocated unwarranted restrictions in academic discourse points to the distressing possibility that the leadership of our elite universities desires to operate under an opaque shield of unaccountability.
  • How the federal government loses more money than its bean-counters can count
Since 2003, cumulative estimates of improper payments by executive-branch agencies, which GAO reports show are on the low side just like the 2023 numbers, have reached $2.7 trillion. That’s equivalent to roughly 10% of everything produced in the U.S. this year.
  • The good life
The old fisherman no longer fishes the creek. I cannot tell him that I understand, but I believe that he knew that one day I would.
  • Flashback: White House panned theories that Harris would replace Biden
The Haley assertion that Harris would succeed Biden atop the ticket now seems less like an unsubstantiated conspiracy and more like a possible exit ramp for Democrats worried about the president’s age after his disastrous debate showing. Harris is viewed as the most likely replacement.
  • Rural living trumps city life
In the summer of 2023, I had this opportunity and drove to Golden, Colo. and stopped to see the LaRoshes in Kansas. I caught Mr. LaRosh at the machinery shed that day and told him my story. I gave him my business card and went on to Golden. Two days later, I am sitting on my daughter’s front porch in Golden and my phone rings.
  • Political campaign signs paid with your tax dollars
Joe Biden wants you to know he is spending your money – and lots of it – by putting up thousands of billboards along roads and other publicly funded projects over the country declaring they were “funded by President Joe Biden.” You’re also paying for those. Cool story Joe, but we all know you aren’t funding anything – you’re charging your trillion-dollar spending spree to taxpayers.
  • A better way to pick a president
The way we pick our president has radically changed since the days of party caucuses in Congress nominating our candidates. If Americans’ attitudes toward our likely presidential candidates in 2024 are any indication, we are overdue for the next evolution.
  • It's really hard to like you
Ever been looked squarely in the eyes and bluntly told you are a bitter, angry person? Probably not. After all, who in their right mind wants to be within 12 feet of a bear and throw heavy stones at that huge, furious mass of muscle and bone? Nobody wants to face that.
