The world knows him as country music legend Johnny Paycheck, but for a small group of Greenfield residents, he'll always be "Donnie." Several residents who were close to Paycheck – who was born in Greenfield in 1938 – have donated funds to erect signs denoting that the city is the birthplace of the former country music star.

Honoring a life dedicated to students, and education, the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees has bestowed the honor of faculty emeritus posthumously to Prof. Bill Horne.
  During the board's monthly meeting April 13, held at the Appalachian Gateway Center at SSCC's South Campus in Fincastle, the board voted 8-0 to amend the college's definition of professor emeritus, and then immediately voted on a resolution conferring the title to Horne.

Chatfield College and Southern State Community College recently signed articulation agreements with Mount Vernon Nazarene University-Cincinnati. The agreement facilitates the transfer of their associate degree graduates into MVNU’s Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree program.

An exhibition featuring “plein air” artist Joanne Edwards is currently on display in the Learning Resources Center (LRC) of Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia. The exhibition will be available for viewing throughout spring quarter. The art term “plein air” refers to a style of painting produced outdoors in natural light.

The Hillsboro City Council has authorized an increase in fares for Hillsboro, after council president Lee Koogler had to break a tied vote on the matter.
  Misty Haag, office manager of Hillsboro Taxi and Transportation Services, addressed council during their regular meeting April 11 and requested they consider a rate increase.

State Route 41 in Adams County is now open between the Adams-Brown County line and the Bentonville community following its closure due to flooding. However, S.R. 73 in Scioto County is now closed at Rarden.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington issued a flood warning at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday, April 12 for Highland, Brown, Ross, Pike, Scioto, and Adams counties, effective until 4:45 p.m.

The specific costs for individual runs for EMS is a figure that is unknown by the city of Hillsboro, although city officials have stated that is a figure they would like to have.   
 Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink told the Hillsboro City Council Monday that budgeting for Hillsboro Fire and Rescue is "flip-flopped" because the fire portion of the budget is larger than the EMS portion, even though there are three times as many EMS calls.

The staff of the Highland County Clerk of Courts Office will be an open house on Friday, April 15 in honor of Clerk of Courts Paulette Donley.
  Donley will retire Friday after more than 22 years in the office. She announced her retirement to the Highland County Board of Commissioners on April 6.

A Hillsboro man has been indicted on a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide, stemming from a September three-vehicle crash that left one dead, and others injured.
 Kevin Dehaas, 21, of Hillsboro, according to the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, was driving southbound on state Route 138 in a 1996 Saturn on Sept. 17 when he allegedly attempted to pass a Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Mickey Berry, 23, of Hillsboro.

The city of Greenfield will hold a sign presentation ceremony at 1 pm. Wednesday, April 13, as new markers will be installed to let visitors to the city know it's the home of former Grand Ole Opry star Johnny Paycheck. According to Greenfield historian George Foltz, the ceremony will take place at Greenfield City Hall, with Donna Angel presenting the first sign to city manager Betty Bishop.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather advisory today for all of southern Ohio, as a storm system moves through the Midwest. Today's forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms, and some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall and strong winds.
