Butler hosting ‘Information Sessions with the County Auditor’ across Highland County to discuss property tax reappraisals

Highland County Auditor Alex Butler invites the public to attend a series of information sessions he is hosting across the county.

Each session will cover the 2024 state-mandated reappraisal, inside and outside millage, property tax credits, how taxes are calculated and where your tax dollars are distributed.

Sessions will be held in the following municipalities:

• Greenfield: April 8 at 7 p.m. at the Highland County Community Action Office, 1300 Jefferson St., Greenfield 45123.

• Hillsboro: April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Hi-TEC building, 1575 N. High Street, Hillsboro, 45133.

• Lynchburg: April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Lynchburg Area Joint Fire & Ambulance Station, 8123 state Route 135, Lynchburg 45142.

• Leesburg: April 23 at 7 p.m. at the Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance Station, 200 South St., Leesburg 45135.

• Mowrystown: April 24 at 7 p.m. at the Mowrystown Village Council Chambers at the Southern Highland Joint Fire District Building, 50 Maple Street, Mowrystown 45155.

If you wish to discuss your particular property, you will need to stop into the office or make an appointment, as individual properties will not be reviewed during the information session.

As a reminder, the deadline to appeal your valuation for tax year 2024, pay 2025, is March 31st. Form DTE 1 and instructions for submission can be found on the County Auditor's website under the forms tab on the homepage.

Many false narratives were posted on social media around the assessed value increases for 2024. I personally made many comments to correct these false statements. I even attended the free meeting with county staff. The process was professional and fair. This is your final chance. Kudos to Alex Butler for holding these information sessions.
