Washington Township will wait on final EMS/fire decision

With more than a dozen residents in attendance, the Washington Township trustees said they will wait on making a final decision regarding EMS and fire services.
  Meeting at the township building off state Route 73 in Berrysville on Monday night, the trustees were asked about their options on the future of emergency services.

EMA announces bottled water distribution locations

Highland County Water Company customers who remain without services will be provided with free bottled water, beginning Monday evening. 
Highland County Emergency Management Agency Executive Director Jim Lyle said the county applied to the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Saturday to receive water assistance. County customers were without the water services when the privately owner Highland County Water Company lost electricity during the weekend storms.

Sunday storm knocks tree into Woodland trails home

Winds and thunderstorms moving through Highland County Sunday evening caused a large tree to fall on a Paint Township home, adding more damage to an already storm-ravaged area.

Boil advisory in effect for those with water service; shelter hours extended

As of Sunday, July 1, the Highland County Water Company has issued a boil advisory until further for those customers with service. In a press release Sunday from Highland County EMA Director Jim Lyle, county water officials said the plant is "running at a fast pace but trying not to overload the system."

Commissioners declare a state of emergency

The Highland County Board of Commissioners declared a State of Emergency Saturday due to power outages and potential water shortages. "It's a great time to be a good neighbor. For those Highland County residents who are lucky enough to have electricity, it's a good day to do a good deed, and check on your neighbors, especially if they are elderly or you know them to have health problems," Commissioner Shane Wilkin said.

Liberty Township votes to join Paint Creek fire district

In a 2-1 vote, the Liberty Township Trustees voted to join the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District Friday night, despite a last-minute suggestion from the city of Hillsboro that the trustees hold off on a decision until next week.
There was no electricity in the township building on Moore Road as the trustees held the special session.

Liberty Township schedules special meeting on fire/EMS

The Liberty Township Trustees have scheduled a special meeting for Friday to "discuss strategy pertaining to fire and EMS."
  Liberty Township Trustee Jerry Williams told The Highland County Press last week that he had met with Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District board member Bill Redenbaugh at their fire station in Greenfield regarding "fact finding."
On Thursday, township legal counsel Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins said that the townships have been exploring all available options when it comes to finding a resolution for the services.
