Solar energy project could save thousands for HCS

A green energy project being considered by the Hillsboro City Schools has the potential to save the district more than $53,000 over a 23-month period, with the potential for more savings in electricity in future years.
 The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education, during their monthly meeting Wednesday, discussed the proposed installation of solar panels on the hill behind Hillsboro High School/Middle School.

HHS profiles student achievements
Hillsboro High School wants to step up their efforts in recognizing students and staff during the second semester. Kelsi Spicer, a freshmen at HHS, will spearhead this project. Kelsi was eager to begin her first assignment of interviewing and writing about two of our senior students, Ben Rhodes and Matt Newby. Kelsi stated, “this is a great opportunity to get to know fellow students.”

Students decorate for Catholic Schools Week
St. Mary School had a door decorating contest as part of Catholic Schools Week. Mrs. Wagoner's 1/2 day class was chosen as the winner. The St. Mary's Angels wrote why their Catholic School was important to them. They will be treated to popcorn and a movie.

Multiple county units battle field fire
Approximately 9-10 acres were damaged during a field fire off Hopkins Lane Wednesday afternoon.
 According to Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, the department received a call at approximately 2:28 p.m. Wednesday with a report that 3-4 acres were on fire.
