Hillsboro council meets in executive session with county commissioner

The Hillsboro City Council met in executive session for approximately one hour with the president of the Highland County Board of Commissioners Thursday night to discuss security and property.
 All council members were present during the special meeting called by council president Lee Koogler except for David Shoemaker, who is out of town, and his absence was excused.
SSCC committee weighs options on pending state cuts
The finance committee of The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees met Wednesday to discuss the college's budget in response to pending state funding cuts.
  The meeting was held at Alley 21 in Hillsboro and the committee which includes board members Vickie Wilson, Paul Hall and Michelle Cimis, was joined by board chair Kay Ayres, SSCC President Kevin Boys and SSCC Vice President of Business and Finance Jim Buck.

Quaker Heritage Center to host 'New Harmonies' exhibit
A musical part of the Smithsonian Institution’s collection is coming to Wilmington College March 16 through April 12 with an exhibit, “New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music,” at the Meriam R. Hare Quaker Heritage Center.

An exhibit-opening concert featuring Wild Carrot & the Roots Band and SOTIW (Sketches of the Inner World) will be held March 16, at 7:30 p.m., in Heiland Theatre, concurrent with the gallery opening. It is free of charge.

Alydar and I then headed due east for about 200 feet. We made a diagonal northeasterly turn that left me in the backyard of the Thompson Funeral Home. Which, I thought, was a good thing. Or, convenient, anyway, because I was about to die. It’s also where Seattle Slew and I parted company. When this horse hit East Main Street, it was Brother come to Jesus. He’d found the Lord. Or at least a familiar highway on his road home. I kid you not, he hit the Secretariat Gear about three strides onto Route 124 and opened up a 20-length lead on me.
