Our Summer Reading Program is going great! We have 318 signed up - enjoying a great summer read and hopefully winning some great prizes. Library camp has been exciting as well - with a grand total of 375 attending. We will be drawing for grand prizes on August 1.

On Tuesday, July 12 at 5:12 a.m., unusual circumstances led a Hillsboro-area citizen to report observing a suspicious vehicle at the Producers Stockyards on West Main Street in Hillsboro.

Fairfield Elementary School student Grace Shope, along with East Clinton’s Victoria Fliehman, recently finished second in the nation in the 2011 AAU Fifth Grade Division II Girls Basketball National Championship. The student-athletes played for the Lakota-based Cincinnati Heat Premier (CHP), coached by West Chester’s Scott Cannatelli.

Bill and Joyce Main of the Marshall area recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 2, 2011. A 50th wedding anniversary celebration open house will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Overlook Retreat Banquet Center at Rocky Fork Lake, 6452 Lucas Lane, Hillsboro.

In recent proposal the football coaches associations wants coaches to honor Jim Tressel during the first week of high school football season. Highland County Press sports editor Stephen Forsha has 10 weeks worth of ways coaches can honor other embattled coaches this year.

The Greene Countrie Towne Festival, formerly the Wheels of Progress Festival, will have its official start Thursday, July 14 with the annual queen pageant at the Greenfield Church of Christ. Opening ceremonies for the festival will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, July 15 at the Fourth Street Stage. The festival lasts through Sunday, July 17. The grand marshal for the 2011 parade is George Waddell, who passed away last year. To honor him for his philanthropic service to the community of Greenfield, his family will represent him in the parade.

Wanda Irene Legg, 86, of Greenfield, formerly of Latham, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Hearth & Care of Greenfield.
