UPDATED Grandey says he will miss the people, but not the office stress

Highland County Prosecutor Jim Grandey has announced his retirement, effective May 31. Grandey said that personal reasons and state pension changes prompted the decision. He also wants to spend more time with his grandchildren.
 A letter dated May 16 to Highland County Auditor Bill Fawley from Grandey stated, "This is to notify you that for personal reasons, I will be retiring as Highland County Prosecuting Attorney as of the close of business May 31, 2011.

 The purpose of the Appalachian Unsung Hero Award is to recognize "unsung heros" who have performed good deeds and built pride and self-esteem but have gone unnoticed or unrewarded for their exceptional efforts and outstanding service within the Appalachian community.
