Saturday (Aug. 21) saw the McClain Lady Tigers gain two big wins to open the 2021 season by defeating the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs and the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats to take home the 2021 Spike and Dig volleyball championship with the event being held at Hillsboro High School.

HILLSBORO – Though there was great excitement before the game with the fans cheering loudly and the band playing the fight song, the 2021 season opener for the Hillsboro Indians didn’t go the way of the home team at Richards Memorial Field against the Western Brown Broncos.

Coming off a tough season in 2020 where the Hillsboro Indians and every other team in the state had to battle more than their opponent, they learned a lot on the field that can be taken into the upcoming 2021 season, as this is a fresh start for a program that struggled in the win column last year.

Four members of the Ohio State women’s golf team – Kristin Jamieson, Yukie Sasaki, Sofia Seldemirova and Skylar Thompson – were all named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars for the 2020-21 academic season.

This summer, Shaffer Park is celebrating its 60th anniversary in its current location on North High Street in Hillsboro.
