Lebanon Post investigating fatal crash on Interstate 75 involving a pedestrian

The Lebanon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 75 near state Route 122 in Middletown. The crash occurred Nov. 7, just after 8 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows a Chevrolet Impala, operated by Stanley E. Kaleta, 80, West Chester, was driving southbound on I-75 when he allegedly struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway.

The pedestrian, identified as Darrin J. Fields, 45, Englewood, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Kaleta was not injured.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Middletown Division of Police Department, Middletown Division of Fire, Warren County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

One lane of southbound I-75 was shut down for approximately three hours while the crash scene was active.

The crash remains under investigation.
