Johnson announces funding for Shawnee State University Advanced Manufacturing Center
State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) announced the Appalachian Regional Commission has selected Shawnee State University to receive $1,999,092 for the institution's advanced manufacturing center.
This investment will help strengthen the region's workforce through crucial updates to the center and program expansion efforts, which will serve thousands of students and several businesses.
"Shawnee State is accomplishing incredible work for Southern Ohio's next generation of leaders, and this funding for the advanced manufacturing center will help the institution continue its mission and increase its footprint," Johnson said. "I look forward to seeing the numerous careers started and lives changed because of this project."
The funds will support 8,700 square feet in renovations for the training center and Manufacturing on the Move, a K-12 career exploration program designed with local employers that gives students the skills needed for future employment.
The funding is part of the federal Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative, which aims to help support economic development and workforce efforts in areas impacted by coal-related job losses. More than $8.2 million for eight projects in Ohio were selected by the Appalachian Regional Commission.
