The Highland County ACCESS/Workforce Development Program offers opportunities for student success with hands-on workplace experience through internships. Local schools have selected the following Work-Based Learning participants as Students of the Month for January.

• Adrionna Phillips of Whiteoak High School works at Hillsboro Family Dentistry. She is a receptionist, but she spent her first 45 hours there as an intern.

Phillips has worked at the dental office five months. She loves the people she works with, and they are all supportive of her goal to become a dental hygienist.

• Kendal Welling of Fairfield High School is currently interning at Fairfield Elementary, where she supports young students in their daily activities. Her enthusiasm for early education is evident, as she interacts with the children and contributes to a positive learning environment.

Welling intends to pursue a degree in early childhood education to deepen her dedication to teaching.

• Dayza Daugherty, a senior at McClain High School, completed a 45-hour BEST OHIO internship at Corvac Composites. They were so impressed with her work, they are planning to hire her as a full-time employee in their offline cell.

Daugherty also participated in the two-week BEST Ohio Manufacturing Ready Training program at the Greenfield Economic Development Center. She has successfully completed the RISEUP 12 Point Industry Credential for Retail Industry Fundamentals and Customer Service. Daugherty’s industrious mindset has paved the way for her future to be very bright.

• Cameron Schultz of Lynchburg-Clay High School has been working at Ulmer’s Auto-Care Center: Pro Transmission in Florence, Ky. for approximately five months.

Schultz fixes, diagnoses, cleans and rebuilds transmissions for customer vehicles. He said his favorite part of participating in the Work-Based Learning Program is getting ready for real-life work experience.
