Hillsboro Christian Academy
fall bazaar Oct. 21
    Hillsboro Christian Academy will host a fall bazaar Saturday, Oct. 21
from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the school, 849 South High St., Hillsboro.
    Come and start your holiday shopping with local businesses and crafters.
Vendors interested in setting up can reserve a 10x10 spot for $25. Breakfast
and lunch will also be available for purchase. The event is sponsored by the

Elmville Church of Christ in
Christian Union revival Oct. 22-26
    The Elmville Church of Christ in Christian Union will be having a
revival Oct. 22-26. Revival times are Sunday, Oct. 22, 6 p.m.; and Monday,
Oct. 23 through Thursday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m. Preaching will be by The Konigs,
and singers will be the McDaniels Family.

Leesburg Area Historical
Society Heritage Breakfast Nov. 4
    The Leesburg Area Historical Society will host its second annual
Heritage Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8-11 a.m. The meal will be
served at the Highland County North Joint Fire & Ambulance Station Community
Room (200 South St., Leesburg). On the menu are pancakes and sausage;
biscuits and gravy; and beverages.
    Traditional and folk music will be performed by John Noftsger. Antique
and vintage items will be appraised by antique experts Toy Fender and Betty
Ann Walker. While the entire event is free, donations will be gratefully
accepted. The Society hopes to raise the last $3,000 needed to undertake a
full exterior renovation of our 1899 train depot in the coming year. 

SSCC to hold orientation
for free GED preparation classes
    The Adult Opportunity Center (AOC) at Southern State Community College
is offering fall orientations for new program enrollees in basic academic
skills, GED preparation, and college readiness. These sessions will be held
in November at various locations, which include Batavia, Georgetown,
Greenfield, Hillsboro, Mount Orab, Washington C.H., West Union, and
Wilmington.
    Classes will meet twice a week and are free. All materials are
furnished.

Elementary basketball
tournament Oct. 23-29
    An elementary basketball tournament will be held Oct. 23-29 at Whiteoak
High School. The tournament is open to students in fourth through sixth
grades, and there will be brackets for both boys and girls teams.
    The entry fee is $100 (two-game guarantee), and the deadline is
Thursday, Oct. 19.

Altrusa quarter raffle Nov. 9
    Altrusa of Highland County will be having a quarter raffle on Nov. 9 at
the Hillsboro Orpheum. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the raffle starts at
6:30 p.m. 
    Altrusa is a nonprofit organization which gives every student in
Highland County, grades kindergarten through fifth, a book every year as one
of their service projects.

Highland County Metropolitan
Housing Authority Board to meet Oct. 26
    The Highland County Metropolitan Housing Authority will hold its regular
and annual board meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at the MHA office,
8919 U.S. 50, Hillsboro.

21st annual SATH 
Radio-A-Thon Oct. 23
    SATH proudly announces the generous donation of airtime by radio
stations C-103 in West Union and 99.5 in Georgetown on Monday, Oct. 23 from
6-10 p.m. The 21st annual Radio-A-Thon will take place at the C-103/99.5
radio station.
    SATH will be broadcasting live and accepting pledges for SATH and KAMP
Dovetail. Tune in to C-103 or 99.5 ³The Edge² for information concerning the
radio-a-thon, upcoming SATH events and the latest progress on KAMP. If you
wish to make a pledge prior to the radio-a-thon, you may do so by calling
Linda Allen, at (937) 366-6657. Your pledge will be announced on the radio.

Monday, Oct. 23 beginning at 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. or stop by the C-103 Radio

Jeepers Creepers Oct. 20
    The City of Hillsboro will host the annual Jeepers Creepers event Oct.
20 from 5-10 p.m. at Crossroads Park, 226 West Main St., Hillsboro. The
event will include a Jeep contest, costume contest, kids¹ activities and
live music by Violet Embers and Sick Serenity.
    Food vendors will be Tater Patch BBQ, Aloha Tacos and More and Caleb
Hill Concessions & Events. The Hillsboro Elks 361 will host a beer garden
throughout the event.
    Also during the event, the Highland County Peace Officers will host a
cornhole tournament. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m., and bags fly at 5
p.m. The cost to enter is $40 per team, with all proceeds benefiting the
Shop with a Cop program. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. To

Retirement planning
meeting Oct. 24
    An informational retirement planning meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct.
24 at 4 p.m. in the Hillsboro Elementary School Library. This meeting is for
teachers and administrators who are considering retirement in the next two
to five years. The meeting, sponsored by Highland County Retired Teachers
Association, will be presented by Tamla Cole, STRS Assistant Director,
Member Engagement & Outreach.
    In the meeting, you will learn what steps you need to take to be
prepared for the retirement process. During this in-person meeting, we will:
    • Walk you through key elements of the Service Retirement Application;
    • Review your plan of payment options;
    • Discuss STRS Ohio Health Care Program options; and
    • Address the retirement process and important timelines.
    Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions as well as receive
helpful resource materials. Snacks will be provided. We look forward to

Veterans Appreciation Night Nov. 10
    The 11th annual Veterans Appreciation Night and open house will be
4-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at the Hi-TEC Center conference room. The Hi-TEC
Center is located at 1575 North High Street in Hillsboro. Light refreshments
will be served.
    Special recognition will be given to Korean War veterans on the 70th
anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement in 1953.
    The event is hosted by the Highland County Veterans Service Office.

Unified Christian Men's Chorus
Veterans Day concert Nov. 5
    The Unified Christian Men's Chorus annual Veterans Day concert will be 3
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 West Locust
Street in Wilmington.
    Admission is free. All veterans will receive a challenge coin. Child
care will be available.
    The Unified Christian Men's Chorus includes Clinton, Fayette and
Highland County veterans when they host this annual concert. For

Lynchburg Masonic Lodge
fish fry Oct. 28
    Lynchburg Masonic Lodge 178, located at 131 S. Main St., will host a
fish fry on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 4:30-7 p.m. 
    The menu will include a fish dinner for $12 (fish, fries, slaw and hush
puppies), kids meal for $8 (chicken tenders, fries and drink) or a fish
sandwich for $6.
    Fried pies will be sold separately.
    Proceeds will benefit the Lodge.

Hillsboro meetings
    The 2024 City of Hillsboro meeting schedule is as follows.
    • City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom.
    • Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at :30 p.m. at
the old firehouse on Governor Trimble Place.
    • The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
in the City Building. Scheduled dates are: Jan. 17, May 22, Aug. 21 and Nov.

    • Records Commission meetings are TBA.
    • Civil Service Commission meetings are TBA.
    • The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at the City Building.
    Changes in schedule or special meetings must be published a minimum of
24 hours prior to meeting time.

Countywide curfew
    Highland County Juvenile Court Judge Kevin L. Greer announced that a
countywide curfew for all persons under the age of 18 will begin Sunday,
Oct. 1 and continue through Tuesday, Oct. 31.
    The curfew requires all persons under the age of 18 years to be off the
streets and in their homes Monday through Thursday by 10 p.m. and Friday,
Saturday and Sunday by midnight.
    The curfew does not apply where children are accompanied by parents,
legal guardians or custodians. Exception is also made for children attending
church, school or employment activities.
    Enforcement will be handled by all law enforcement agencies, including
the sheriff's department, city or village police and juvenile probation
officers.
    While noting the court has no authority to set beggars' night, and
strictly as a convenience to law enforcement, it is suggested each city,
village and organization – should they elect to have beggars' night – set
the same on Thursday, Oct. 25 from 6-8 p.m.

Alternatives to Violence
Center trivia night Oct. 27
    The Alternatives to Violence Center will hold its 12th annual trivia
night fundraiser on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Hillsboro Orpheum, 135 North
High St. This year¹s theme is Marvel Heroes ­ ³Not All Heroes Wear Capes.²
Tickets are $400 per table for a minimum of five and maximum of eight
players per team. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and
third-place teams. 
    Dinner is provided, and there will be a cash bar. There will be a
costume contest, and attendees are encouraged to dress like your favorite
Marvel hero. 
    The registration deadline is Oct. 20. To register, or for more

Beggars' night Oct. 26
    Trick or treat (beggars' night) will be observed in the City of
Hillsboro on Thursday, Oct. 26 during the hours of 6-8 p.m.

Senior food donations
    The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

HCCAO Board meeting dates announced
    The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2023 on the following dates: Oct. 24, Nov. 28 and Dec. 26.

HDH Board meetings
    The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meetings for 2023 will
be held on the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in
the Education Room at Highland District Hospital. Meeting schedules for
specific committees can be obtained by contacting Melinda Russell at (937)
393-6101.

Reformers Unanimous
    Reformers Unanimous offers Christian support for all types of addiction
every Friday from 7-9 p.m. Meetings are held at Greenfield Area Christian
Center, located at 912 North Fifth Street in Greenfield. Call (937) 515-6748

Peace Lutheran Church
    Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland
County Fair and has their meetings at the church. Call Peace Lutheran at

Lynchburg Historical Society
    The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.

New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
    New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the absolute earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
