Wildcats win on road; set up SHL showdown

     PEEBLES — The Whiteoak Wildcats played consistently by scoring runs in all but two innings for a 9-3 Southern Hills League win Thursday at PHS.
     The Wildcats have set up a Southern Hills League championship showdown with the Fairfield Lions Friday at Whiteoak High School.
     "This was a big win for us," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "We win and we clinch no less than a share of crown."
      Against the Indians, WHS scored two runs in the top of the first, followed with three runs in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth innings to total their nine runs.
      As for the Indians they scored one run in three different innings.
      Freshman Gage Carraher (4-2) gained the win for the Wildcats. He went all seven innings, allowing three runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks. Carraher finished with 10 strikeouts.
      "Gage Carraher, c-103 player of game, was outstanding again on the mound. He also regained his stroke at the plate."
      For the Wildcats at the plate, Ben Barnett, Gage Carraher and Mike Carraher all had two hits.
      Barnett was 2-for-3 with two runs, as Gage Carraher went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and two runs. Gage Carraher's hits were both doubles.
      Mike Carraher went 2-for-3 with one run.
      Ethan Eyre was 1-for-2 with a double, one run and one RBI. Luke Taggert had one hit and one RBI.
      "We were focused as a team from the outset," Veidt said. "We ran the bases very well, and played adequate defense. We looked very comfortable at the plate tonight."
      The win lifts the Wildcats to 9-13 overall, 7-5 in the SHL.
      They host Fairfield tonight at 5 p.m. as WHS goes for their third straight SHL Division II title. Fairfield and WHS tied for the league title in '08.
