MOWRYSTOWN — After scoring two runs in the first inning, the Whiteoak Wildcats cruised to a 10-0 six-inning win Thursday on Senior Night at Whiteoak High School, defeating the North Adams Green Devils.

Seniors who were honored before the game were: Michael Carraher, Nick Eldridge and Ryan Emery.

WHS not only had two runs in the first, but added seven runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to seal the victory.

Luke Taggert was the winning pitcher for WHS, pitching the six-inning complete game. He allowed one hit and no runs, while walking four to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Taggert also collected two hits at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, and two RBIs. One of his hits was a double.

Gage Carraher was 2-for-2 with a double, and teammates Michael Carraher, Emery, Michael Smith, Wes Stratton and David Deer each had one hit.

Michael Carraher scored a run, and Emery had one run and two RBIs. Smith tallied one RBI, and Stratton scored two runs while collecting one RBI. Deer scored one run and had one RBI as he hit a double.

One big play came in the fourth inning when in a close situation (WHS lead 2-0) Emery made a diving catch of a line drive as North Adams had runners on second and third base.

"If that ball falls in, it changes the entire complexion of the game," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "We had no errors again, for the second consecutive game, and that is a good thing to see.

"Tyler Williams is really starting to mature for us at third. He made two outstanding plays. Things are starting to really come together for us at the right time."

The Wildcats improve to 10-8 overall, and are now scheduled to host the Peebles Indians Friday at WHS, starting at 5 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
