Tournament Preview: Wildcats set to face Bobcats

MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Wildcats return to the court for a Division IV SE District Sectional Final game, in their tournament opener against the Green Bobcats on Tuesday, at Valley High School in Lucasville.

Whiteoak, who finished 7-13 in the regular season, enters this game with a lot of rest, as their last game was on Friday, Feb. 18 against West Union, a 55-34 win in which senior Joe Michael scored his 1,000th point in his career.

The Wildcats this season defeated Lynchburg-Clay, Fairfield, Eastern Brown, New Boston, Fayetteville (twice), Manchester, Felicity and West Union.

In the SHL this season, the Wildcats were 6-7.

Michael has led the way for the Wildcats with 17.4 points per game this season, along with 7.5 rebounds per game and 2.7 steals per game. He has shot 50 percent from the field.

Doc Seip is the the second-highest scorer per game for the Wildcats with 11.3 ppg, along with 4.8 rpg and a shooting percentage of 54 percent.

Michael Carraher averages 9.2 ppg with a 39-percent shooting percentage from the 3-point line. Gage Carraher has an average of 8.9 ppg and a 38-percent 3-point shooting percentage.

The Bobcats also haven't played since Feb. 18, when they defeated the Eastern Eagles, clinching a share of the SOC Division I championship, as they enter the sectional final game on a three-game winning streak.

In that game, Green was led by TJ McCloud with 23 points (nine in 4th quarter) and 10 rebounds. He was 9-of-12 from the free-throw line in that game, along with one steal and one assist.

Unofficially, McCloud is averaging around 16 ppg and 9 rpg.

The Bobcats earned some postseason awards with Tyler Hughes, McCloud, and Patrick Pierce all being named first-team All-SOC. McCloud was co-Player of the year. Head coach Bobby Blanton was named SOC co-Coach of the Year and District 14 Coach of the Year.

The Bobcats enter the game with an overall record of 15-5.

Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Valley High School.[[In-content Ad]]
