Lady 'Cats pounce Blue Jays

MOWRYSTOWN — A six-run sixth inning capped off a second win in as many days for the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats, Thursday, defeating the Ripley Blue Jays, 10-4 at Whiteoak High School.
The Southern Hills League win puts WHS at 3-3 overall on the season.
"We played well," WHS head coach Bret Malone said. "I told the girls they needed to focus harder in this game, and they did that."
The Lady 'Cats' scoring began in the second inning with three runs, followed by one run in the fourth, for a 4-2 lead.
With the score tied at four when the bottom of the fourth inning began, the Lady 'Cats walked away with six more runs to the overall totals for a 10-4 lead, more than enough runs to seal the win.
Scoring in the second for WHS were senior Ashley Frazer, senior Haley Bingamon and sophomore Brittani VanZandt. In the second, Bingamon singled and Frazer had two stolen bases. VanZandt also had a steal in the inning, reaching the bases with a single.
Frazer added another run in the third, as she walked to reach first base. Tolliver singled in the inning, and VanZandt walked.
In the sixth, senior Juanita Nichols, senior Kari Fannin, sophomore Christine Hamilton, Frazer, senior Brittany Tolliver and senior Taryn Christy all scored runs for the Lady 'Cats.
"The girls were more patient at the plate in the sixth," Malone said. "A lot of the runs came from walks."
The sixth inning had Christy drawing a walk, and Nichols gaining, drawing a walk. Also drawing a base-on-balls were Fannin, Hamilton and Frazer. Tolliver hit a ball to right field to reach the bases.
Freshman McKenzee Martin had two doubles for the game.
The Lady Blue Jays scored their runs in the third and fourth innings. Two runs were scored in each inning. Carpenter scored two runs for RHS. Grisnam scored in the fourth, and Wright scored a run in the third.
Christy pitched the first three innings for the Lady 'Cats, and Nichols pitched from the fourth inning until the final out.
"Taryn battled through three innings and did well," Malone said. "Juanita didn't have her best stuff, but she was focused and pitched well. She got the job done."
On Wednesday, WHS defeated Georgetown 3-1, holding on as the Lady G-Men had the bases loaded in the final inning with one out.
WHS is scheduled to play Peebles on Friday. Earlier in the season, PHS defeated the Lady 'Cats 8-1.[[In-content Ad]]
