CEDARVILLE — After nearly a week away from the diamond, the Whiteoak Wildcats traveled to Cedarville rested and ready, and with that combination, along with Gage Carraher on the mound, it was back to what they've done for a majority of the year … winning baseball games as they defeated Cedarville, 9-1 Wednesday.
The non-league win puts WHS at 16-7 overall, as they won the game at Cedarville University by scoring two runs in the first, five runs in the fourth and two runs in the seventh.
Cedarville (11-10) scored their lone run in the seventh inning.
"We played well in all aspects of the game after an extended break," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "Gage was very pitch-efficient with 70 pitches heading into the seventh inning. He didn't feel like he had his best stuff (Wednesday), but he sure looked good, and the numbers back that up."
Speaking of Carraher … it was business as usual for the junior ace, going all seven innings to improve to 6-1 on the season. He allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks, while collecting 13 strikeouts. In six starts this season, Carraher has 10-plus strikeouts in each game.

At the plate for the Wildcats in the non-league win, Michael Smith and Tyler Williams led with two hits each. Smith was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI; while Williams was also 2-for-4 with one run.
Zach Docter (two runs), Carraher (a double, three RBIs, one run), Jesse Bradds, Luke Taggert, Doc Seip (a triple, one run, one RBI), Nick Wardlow and David Deer (a double, one run) all finished with one hit each.
"Tyler Williams and Doc Seip are really starting to heat up offensively," Veidt said. "They make our lineup so balanced when they are swinging it like they are. Gage's bases-loaded double in the fourth really broke things open for us."
WHS will play again on Friday, May 4 when they are tentatively scheduled to host Blanchester in a non-league game at 5 p.m.
