Whiteoak Wildcats earn 5th straight SHAC Div. II championship

For the fifth consecutive season, the Whiteoak Wildcats are sitting atop the Division II Southern Hills Athletic Conference standings, as they defeated the Peebles Indians Friday night by a 16-5 score in five innings.

The road win by the Wildcats — who are also the state coaches poll No. 1 Division IV state-ranked team — moves them to a 12-1 final record in the SHAC, and in this five-season span of championships, the Wildcats are 59-6 in conference play.

Overall, the win moves Whiteoak to 21-1 this season, and they began Friday night with a big inning, scoring eight runs in the top of the first, then followed that with a run in the second inning for a 9-0 lead.

Peebles added three runs in the bottom of the third, but from there it was Whiteoak scoring seven runs in the fifth inning. PHS scored two final runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the run-rule loss to Whiteoak.

WHS and Peebles each totaled nine hits, but the difference was WHS had one error, while Peebles totaled five errors.

Ian Griffith finished the day with three hits, going 3-for-4 with three runs, a double, three RBI and two steals.

Landon Barnett was 2-for-3 with two runs, three RBI, a double, a walk, one HBP and two steals.

Also for the Wildcats, Solomon Combs was 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, one walk, and a steal. David Donohoo finished 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a steal. Carson Emery collected a 1-for-4 game with one run, a walk and five steals.

Luken Roades was 1-for-1 with three runs, one RBI, two walks and he had four steals. Zander Roades finished the game with one run, one RBI, three walks and two steals. Nate Price totaled a run and an HBP. Eli Roberts scored two runs, walked once and had a steal.

Jane Applegate pitched 0.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and two walks. Also for WHS, Emery pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and three walks. Griffith pitched 0.1 innings, allowing no runs, hits or walks.

On Thursday (May 4), the Whiteoak Wildcats gained a 9-6 home win over the Eastern Warriors in SHAC action at WHS.

Eastern led 1-0 after the first inning, but WHS battled back with four runs in the bottom of the second and five runs in the bottom of the third. EHS added one run in the top of the fifth and four runs in the seventh inning.

Whiteoak ended the game with seven hits and two errors, while Eastern had eight hits and one error.

Landon Barnett was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a steal for WHS, while teammate Luken Roades finished 2-for-4 with one run, four RBI and his two hits were doubles.

Nate Price went 1-for-3 with two runs, a double, one HBP and a steal. Zander Roades was 1-for-1 with two runs, one RBI and two walks. Eli Roberts was 1-for-3 with one run.

WHS also had David Donohoo collect an RBI and have a sacrifice fly. Ian Griffith finished with two runs and two walks. Kaden Moon-Stone walked once, had a HBP and collected a steal.

Barnett pitched 6.1 innings, where in the win he allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk. He struck out 10 batters.

Moon-Stone pitched 0.2 innings, allowing no runs and he had two strikeouts.

WHS honored their seniors before the game, and they are Landon Barnett, David Donohoo, Carson Emery, Ian Griffith, Nate Price and Luken Roades.
