The IRS has many deeply concerning issues to fix: abysmal customer service; leaks of taxpayer data; allegations of unjust targeting and preferential treatment in high-profile cases; destruction of taxpayer-filed documents; and more. The IRS should be focused on fixing all of those problems to make the agency function better for taxpayers.  

On the evenings of Feb. 12-17, 2023, a lone bugler dressed in historic uniform stood amid the World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C., and played the reflective and heartrending "Taps" in honor of Idaho’s own Private Thomas Croft Neibaur of Sugar City, Idaho.  

A combination of excessive spending, skyrocketing inflation, rising interest rates, mismanaged interest rate risk, failed supervision and management, and a social media-fueled bank run led to recent bank failures. As Congress and regulators analyze what went wrong, one thing is clear: S. 2155’s targeted reforms did not contribute to bank failures.
