WC’s Burke sets NCAA-era program record for goals, points in win against Franklin

Parker Burke set two NCAA-era program records, scoring five goals and earning 10 points in a 9-0 win over Franklin College on Wednesday evening in Wilmington.

Wilmington's final season in the NAIA was the 1990-91 academic year. WC’s first year in the NCAA was the 1991-92 academic year.

Burke's goal performance is tied for second in program history, including WC’s NAIA era, and points places him tied for third in program history, behind Pierre Brisson's seven-goal and 14-point performance in 1968 and Steve Spirk's five-goal and 11-point performance in 1979. Burke's 10 points equals Cosmo Collett's performance in 1984.

Burke (Xenia, Ohio/Legacy Christian Academy) netted his goals in the 23rd, 27th, 30th, 47th and 53rd minutes. Randy Harris assisted on two of Burke's goals, and Connor Neidemire, Alfie Harris and Kaden Young assisted on the other goals.

The first goal scored by a Wilmington Quaker not named Parker Burke was Aidan Barnishin in the 55th minute, compliments of Jace Houck on a corner kick.

Jose Ruiz scored his third goal of the season in the 77th minute, Logan Kent scored his second goal in the next minute and William Wennerberg scored the first goal of his career in the final minute of the game.
 
Notables

• Oliver Metz got his second clean sheet of his career, saving four shots.

• Wilmington attempted 41 shots, 22 of which were on goal, against three goalkeepers from Franklin.

• On the season, Burke has 12 goals and 28 points through nine matches. The program's single-season NCAA-era record holders for goals is Peter Nilsson in 1997 with 20. For points, the program's single season record is held by Johan Kron in 1996 with 48 points. The all-time record for goals and points for a single season are held by Steve Spirk with 22 goals and 57 points in 1979. The Quakers have 11 matches remaining.

Wilmington next travels to Springfield on Saturday evening to face Wittenberg University at 7:30 p.m.
