GREENFIELD - The McClain Tigers take it to the road once again, as they are set to play in their fourth straight road contest, this time facing South Central Ohio League foe Madison-Plains.
Both teams are coming off league opening looses with M-P falling to the Washington Blue Lions 7-3 and the Tigers dropping their game with London 55-28.
"Playing all the road games hasn't been too bad. Most of the games haven't been far and we just have to take on the road warrior mentality," McClain head coach Randy Closson said. "We certainly would rather being playing home games, but we have good fans who follow us."
After last week's double-digit loss to the Red Raiders, Closson said his team has moved forward in preparation for the Golden Eagles.
"We watched films and realized we could have tackled better," he said. "We saw we made mistakes and we have areas we need to improve. It's time for us to put the loss behind us and learn from it. The kids have handled it well."
The Golden Eagles, who have one win this season, will use multiple looks on the offensive side of the football.
"They run the I-formation, wishbone and sometimes they will spread out," Closson said. "They have talented running backs and a young quarterback. He throws a good ball and adjusts to the speed of the game."
The quarterback of the Golden Eagles is freshman Seth Castro. Castro is 5-8, 150 pounds. Getting most of the carries will be senior Kyle Powers, a 5-10, 190 pound running back.
"They are pretty balanced," Closson said. "They run hard and are tough to tackle. In the games we've watched they ran more in the first couple weeks of the season."
On the defensive side of the ball M-P will uses a 5-2 formation. M-P will slant and angle, while stunting the corner backs to get pressure.
"They do a nice job with their defensive schemes," Closson said. "What they do,  they do well. It works and they have success."
With head coach Barry Blackstone now at Madison-Plains, after coaching at Jonathan Alder, Closson said he sees similarities in the way M-P plays football like Alder.
"I see a lot of Jonathan Alder in them with the offensive and defensive schemes they have put in. He's been successful with it before and they will be ready to play,² Closson said.
To stop the Eagles the Tigers must stay disciplined.
"Everyone had to do their job," Closson said. "Our kids never quit and keep believing. We keep fighting and they realize if they give up they are missing out on an opportunity."
Last week at London the Tigers had 221 total offensive yards, with 142 yards coming from the ground game. The defense gave up 425 total yards to the first-place Red Raiders.
M-P and MHS will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at MPHS.
