Tigers finish undefeated in SCOL

EBER — For the second consecutive season, the McClain Tigers boys soccer team has gone undefeated in the South Central Ohio League.
MHS defeated the Miami Trace Panthers 4-1 Tuesday night at Miami Trace High School, at Panther Stadium, securing a SCOL mark of 11-0-1 this season.
In the past two seasons, the Tigers are 21-0-3 in the league, and the past three seasons, they are 31-2-3 as they have won the past three SCOL championships.
Though the Tigers have won the league title and gone undefeated in the SCOL, they still have a couple goals remaining. Their next goal they can achieve is an undefeated overall record as they have a makeup match scheduled with the Blanchester Wildcats on Thursday (at BHS) with a start time of 4:35 p.m.
"We have to go into the Blanchester game with our head on straight, no matter what their record is or how good they are," MHS coach Shawn Jackson said. "We still have to play our style of game, and like we have all year, take it one game at a time."
Currently, the Tigers are 14-0-1 overall.
"I'm proud of the boys this season," Jackson said. "They lived up to all the challenges so far, and this season going undefeated in the league was a very hard challenge.
"They wanted to win the SCOL and go undefeated this season, and right now we are one win away from an undefeated regular season."
During Tuesday's match against the Panthers, the Tigers led 2-0 at halftime with goals by Luis Rivas and Jarred White.
Second-half goals were scored by Rivas and Sam Henry.
"Offensively, we played well and we got Zack Harper and Trey Lytle to attack more tonight, which was a good thing," Jackson said. "Defensively, Caleb Savage and Ryan Case played well … our entire defense played a good game."
Following their makeup game on Thursday, the Tigers will host a sectional final game on Saturday, Oct. 22 as they will face the winner of Hillsboro and Fairfield-Union. This season, the Tigers tied 1-1 against HHS, and they also defeated their cross-county rival 4-2 at McClain Field.
MHS has hosted a sectional final the previous two seasons, both losses, and this season they earned a No. 1 seed in the postseason sectional match.
"We are looking forward to playing either team in the sectional final," Jackson said. "One of our goals this season was to win a sectional title, and we are looking to get that monkey off our back."
