Tigers defeat defending SCOL champion MP

GREENFIELD - Coming down to the final free throws attempted by the Madison-Plains Golden Eagles, the McClain Tigers gained a bit of revenge Saturday night against the defending South Central Ohio League champions as only one of the final two shots went through the hoop, with the Tigers gaining a 64-63 league win over the Golden Eagles at McClain High School.
The Tigers led 64-60 until MP's Matt McCollister scored a bucket with eight seconds remaining to bring the Eagles within two of tying the game. The bucket was also the 1,000th point by the Golden Eagle senior, as the game was stopped to celebrate the achievement.
The games opening eight minutes ended with the Tigers (5-4, 9-6) trailing 11-10. MHS took the lead at the half by a score of 29-22, as the Tigers netted 19 points in the second quarter.
MP came back with a 20 point third frame, out scoring the Tigers by nine points in the quarter to regain the lead at 43-40.
The final quarter was all offense with MHS leading the way with 24 points, as the Golden Eagles swooped in with 20 points in the final eight minutes.
McClain senior Kameron Mace led with a game-high 21 points making one 3-pointer, six two point buckets and six free throws. Lucas Polley gained 15 points and L.T. Walters finished with 14 points for the Tigers.
Zach Uhl ended the game with five points, followed by Caleb Gregory with four and Zach Matracia finished with three. Logan Wise netted two points for MHS.
Duggder led MP with 20 points and McCollister finished with 19. Warner wrapped up the game with 14 points for the Golden Eagles. Kyle Powers scored seven points for MP, and Ryder netted three in the loss to the Tigers.
MHS shot 21 of 60 for 35 percent, as MP was 22 of 50 shooting for 44 percent. The Tigers shot 12 of 18 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers out rebounded MP 32-26 with Matracia and Walters grabbing six boards. Polley finished with five rebounds and added six steals.
MHS forced 14 turnovers, while committing seven.
The win lifts the Tigers to 9-6 overall, 5-4 in the SCOL. MP falls to 9-4 overall, 6-3 in the SCOL.
The Tigers will play again Tuesday at London and Friday will travel to take on the Miami Trace Panthers.
In JV play Saturday MHS won 37-25 and in freshman action the Tigers won 38-28.
