The Cincinnati Reds are off to their best start since 1990, following an 8-2 win over the Houston Astros, Tuesday night at Great American Ball Park.
The Reds are winners of their first four games, sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers and winning the first of their three-game set against Houston.
Cincinnati is the last undefeated team in the NL this season.
Mike Leake earned the win for the Reds, pitching six innings of three-hit baseball. Leake (1-0) allowed two earned runs, while walking two and striking out four.
Leake, a first-round draft pick, threw 94 pitches, 59 for strikes.
Cincinnati scored three runs in the first inning, followed by two in the second for a 5-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Reds took a seven-run advantage. They scored their final run in the fifth.
Houston scored their two runs in the top of the fifth, as Cincinnati answered with one run in the bottom half of the same inning.
The Reds finished with 10 hits, as the Astros had five. Neither team had an error.
Drew Stubbs, Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto each had two hits. Chris Heisey collected three RBIs.
Phillips left the game and was replaced by Miguel Cairo, who had an RBI.
J.A. Happ (0-1) was charged with the loss. Happ pitched four innings, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits and five walks. He struck out two.
