Mustangs torch Green Devils 2-0

DODSONVILLE – In what Lynchburg-Clay coach Dennis West described as a good defensive match by both teams, it was the Mustangs who provided enough offensive spark in the second half to gain the win over Southern Hills League foe North Adams, Wednesday at Lynchburg-Clay High School.
The win improves L-C to 8-1-3 overall, 4-1-1 in the SHL.
“Both teams made continuous attacks on very solid defenders,” West said. “We played hard and kept up the pressure until we scored our goals.”
The game was scoreless after the first half, but the second half was all Lynchburg-Clay on the offensive side.
L-C gained what proved to be the only goal needed for the win as sophomore forward Michael Smith netted a goal off a cross kick from sophomore Tyler Davidson at the 30:34 mark of the half.
With the tough defense displayed by the Mustangs throughout the entire game, sophomore midfielder Wesley Pierson addded to the offene, scoring a goal with 23:26 left in the game, from a thru pass by Smith.
The Mustangs out shot the Green Devils 16-12, with junior Colin Creek gaining five saves at keeper. J. Creech, of North Adams, had 11 saves.
“We are getting very good play from our team,” West said.
The next game for L-C will be Saturday, Oct. 10 as they travel to face Zane Trace at 2 p.m.
