DODSONVILLE — It was a game of many ups and downs for both the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs and Ripley Blue Jays, but when the final buzzer sounded there was no winner, as each team scored twice with the 80 minute game ending in a 2-2 tie.
Though no winner was determined, the game it self was a roller coaster of activity, with the Blue Jays scoring the first two goals of the game, both in the first half, and the Mustangs making the game interesting with one goal in each half, as the final score came with the game clock getting close to running out of time.
The tie is the second one for the Mustangs this season, as they stand at 3-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the Southern Hills League.
With Ripley leading 2-1 in the second half, Wesley Pierson kicked the ball, sending the ball off the ground with a hard bounce over the RHS keeper, into the back of the net, tying the game at two with 2:17 left in the league game.
"After their (RHS) second goal we played very solid soccer," LC coach Dennis West said. "We put tremendous offensive pressure on Ripley over the final ten minutes.
"We were fortunate that Wesley was able to find the net."
LC's first goal came in the first half with Michael Smith cutting the Ripley lead in half as he beat a defender with 30:49 left in the first.
Ripley's two goals came with Jacob Adams scoring the first goal with 38:16 as he broke through the Mustangs' defense.
The second RHS goal came with 31:16 in the first half with Riley Saelens putting the ball into the back of the net on a direct kick.
"We had a very disappointing start," West said. We just let the first 10 minutes get away from us."
LC keeper Colin Creek had four saves in the tie and RHS keeper Jordan Zweigart had two saves at goal.
