Mustangs shutout Dragons; stay undefeated in SHL

DODSONVILLE — Five Mustangs provided the offense Wednesday as Lynchburg-Clay defeated the West Union Dragons 7-0 at LCHS to stay undefeated in the Southern Hills League.
LC is 4-0 in the SHL following the win as they scored five times in the first half and twice in the second 40-minute period.
The win improves LC to 6-3 overall.
Wesley Pierson and Jeremiah Hacker each posted two goals in the match, which were a part of the 5-0 LC lead in the first half. Also scoring goals in the match were Colt West, Josh Bauer and Aaron Chaney.
Pierson was first to score, breaking the 0-0 tie at the 26:15 mark of the first half with the assist off a cross kick by Gage Waits.
West followed with a penalty kick goal with 24:20 left in the match and at the 21:50 mark, Pierson scored his second goal from a kick 12 yards out.
Hacker followed with consecutive goals at the 17:40 and 10:35 marks of the opening half for a 5-0 lead. His goals were assisted from cross kicks by Bauer and Jared McLaughlin.
The final two goals of the match in the second half were scored by Bauer (17:45) and Chaney (13:30) with assists from cross kicks by Hacker (on Bauer's goal) and Bauer (on Chaney's goal).
Matthew West finished with nine saves at goal for LC. Caleb Griffin had 18 goals for WU.
