DODSONVILLE - The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs played one of their top games offensively Saturday night at Lynchburg-Clay High School, but the Ripley Blue Jays scored just a few more points, as the Blue Jays defeated the Mustangs 82-79 in Southern Hills League action.
"Both teams were very good offensively, but neither team played good solid man-to-man defense," LC head coach Jason McLaughlin said.
Aaron Skaggs led the way for LC with 17 points and five rebounds. Jorden DeHaas gained 16 points and eight assists for the Mustangs.
"Jorden played an excellent game against some of the quickest guards we've seen all year," McLaughlin said.
Austin Fawley had 12 points followed by Dylan Noll and Steven Collins who had 10 points each. Tyler Davidson finished with seven points in the loss to the Blue Jays.
Ripley made five first half 3-pointers.
"Ripley has some very good shooters and we had to extend our defense to stop their first half three-point shooting," McLaughlin said. "Since we did that, it opened up the driving lanes and they were able to get to the basket and find open people for easy shots.
"Except for our defense, our kids played extremely well and were able to put a lot of points on the board."
The loss puts LC at 5-6 in the SHL and 6-12 overall.
LC will play in the Division III SE District Sectional Tournament Tuesday night as they will take on West Union at Waverly High School at 6:15 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
